SAVOR the Central Coast: Food & Wine & California

Just in time for California Wine Month (or as I like to call it, “The Happiest Month of the Year”), I wanted to give you a heads up that California’s San Luis Obispo County is staging a delicious event from September 25-28, 2014: Sunset SAVOR the Central Coast is a fancy little festival featuring food and wine seminars, adventure tours and an opening night party at the amazingly over-the-top Hearst Castle.

Tickets are on sale now, so don’t wait too long – not only will you miss out on the event, but you’ll miss meeting me there!

Organized  by Visit San Luis Obispo County and Sunset magazine, SAVOR gives you a chance to hob-knob with celebrity chefs and winemakers, and to get to know the farm-to-table goodness and wild landscapes of the Central Coast. The four-day event is centered around the town of San Luis Obispo, which is located in my favorite swath of California – halfway between San Francisco and Los Angeles.

SAVOR officially kicks off on the evening of Thursday, September 25 with a gala party called Sunset at Hearst Castle, a magnificently gaudy estate that sits high on a hilltop in nearby San Simeon. However, earlier that day and through Friday, September 26, a variety of culinary and outdoor activities/tours ($85 apiece) will be available for those who book in advance. These activities range from creating botanical spa products to roaming with Clydesdales (which I’m personally hoping I get to do), as well as winemaking in Paso Robles – my favorite California wine region.

The Main Event at Santa Margarita Ranch will be held on Saturday, September 27 and Sunday, September 28, with individually ticketed programs ($25 apiece) such as chef and winemaker seminars (you had me at “exploration of sparkling wines from around the world”), and Lamb Jam, a grand finale cooking contest that sounds like it should be served with a side of mint jelly and roasted potatoes.

I’ll be there with my friend and fellow wine lover Jen, who was my travel buddy in the Napa and Sonoma wine valleys last September. (We’re starting to think that September should not only be California Wine Month, but also our wine month.) I’ll be tweeting and Instagramming live from our activities and events, and if you’re planning on attending SAVOR, please reach out and let me know – I love meeting my readers!

SAVOR the Central Coast tickets are on sale now, and you can check out the event’s latest announcements on the SAVOR Facebook page and/or on Twitter. Looking forward to seeing you there, hopefully hugging some horses, and eating a great deal of California cuisine.
